This contest is quite different from the first two, but I wouldn't call it more complicated. Just different. Here's the scoop!

Mirror, Mirror...

You probably know about the Mirror Universe from reading fanfic, watching DS9, reading books like Dark Passions, or you've seen the TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror." If you do or don't know about this universe, I'm going to tell you all you have to know about it for my contest. Don't fear, there's no need to have followed the Mirror Universe they showed on DS9 or even know much about it. If you don't have anything at all in the way of ideas for your own Mirror Universe, look at the Voyager episode Living Witness and try something with that "universe."

The Mirror Universe is a darker, more militaristic version of our own universe. It's not a basic alternate universe, so don't confuse the two. If you want to write a New Earth/Resolutions story for this contest, go right ahead. However, it can't be "What if Kathryn and Chakotay were stranded there for the rest of their lives?" It could be what happened when the Mirror Universe Kathryn and Chakotay were stranded there, or even what it would've been like for one of our characters to switch place with the other universe's while on New Earth.

In the Mirror Universe...

Here's the deal with this category:
~ There's no need to establish that this takes place in the Mirror Universe if you are entering a story in this category. The In the Mirror Universe category focuses strictly on the Mirror Universe characters.
~ Other than that, anything goes for this category.

Mirror, Mirror Style

For this category, stories should be done in the fashion of the TOS episode "Mirror, Mirror." You can focus on our Janeway and/or Chakotay "visiting" the Mirror Universe, or the Mirror Universe's Janeway and/or Chakotay in the universe we know and love. Or maybe you have a whole other way to write J/C in this fashion. You're not restricted to using the captain and the commander, as long as it's J/C at some point. (Example: Poor Harry gets sent to the mirror universe where he finds Kate Janeway, the captain's woman, unhappily serving under Captain Chakotay until she can stage a mutiny.)

Reflections in the Mirror

It dawned on me that not everyone wants to write something set in the Mirror Universe, so this category has nothing to do with it -- unless you want it to.
~ For this category, either Janeway and/or Chakotay from this universe or from the Mirror Universe take a long, hard look at themselves and their relationship.

Reflections in the Mirror, Mirror

This category combines all of the above options. If you're feeling like something different, this is for you. In this category, the story should focus on the Mirror Universe Janeway and/or Chakotay (you can also add our Janeway and/or Chakotay to the mix, but the mirror versions are required) reflecting on who they are and/or their relationship after coming back from this universe.
